NRL took to the strip last weekend playing at the home of this years SuperBowl Allegiant Stadium home of the Raiders. But America ditched the pads this weekend, and the stars of Australian Rugby League were able to showcase this great sport to the world.

40,000 Fans attended the first attempt of the most ambitious rugby league expansion ever, and apart from European Viewing times it was a massive success. With teams already wanting a shot at following suit next year.

Two great games were played, The Manly Sea-Eagles took on the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the first game. Even though rugby league mad, and Souths super fan Russell Crowe would have loved to see his team win on US soil, the Bunnies were defeated by a very encouraging looking Manly side. Who is they stay fit might be a genuine contender for the title this year.

Next up was the Sydney Roosters and the Brisbane Broncos, two of the NRL’s most famous teams going head to head. The Broncos as last years runner-ups were somewhat favourite to turn over the Roosters in the city that never sleeps. But it was the Roosters, who came out on top. Starting their season in one of the best possible ways. And potentially starting their charge to knock Penrith Panters off their perch.

Teams are believed to be wanting to get in on the action of playing rugby in the states. With the Melbourne Storm and Penrith Panthers, being two of the favourites to go to Vegas next year.

Storm were hoping to go this year but narrowly missed out on the opportunity.

Penrith are having stadium renovations, meaning it makes sense for them as they are already looking for other stadium arrangements for some games next season.

The NRL put on a show, and now they have a real opportunity to expand the game to many more places. Hopefully the RFL and Super League look at this success and try to see what they can take from this to expand our game across europe and the world.
