This past weekend I attended the Monster Energy MotoGP British Grand Prix at the famous Silverstone circuit. And when I say it is worth the money I truly mean it. As my first expierience of the pinacle of track Motorbike racing was something I could not miss.
Silverstone, as a track is very different to the typical MotoGP expierience with multiple long straights which means that overtaking was always going to be expected. But, in comparison to other series seen at this circuit , all of the Moto categories showcased excellent passing skills.
The MotoGP races were dominated by Ducatti, even after an excellent Espargaro pole position for Aprillia (which broke the track record for Silverstone). But even with such dominance the favourite going into the weekend Pecco Bagnaia was unable to maintain his championship lead from rival Jorge Martin.
Bagnaia crashed out of the sprint race, after he lost the bike within the village and loop complex of the circuit. This marked the end to a Saturday at Silverstone that just didn’t seem to click for the world champion. As within qualifying his sponsor logo on his helmet fell off, leading to him aborting his lap as it just started through Abbey.
His teammate Bastianni was able to do the double, after two very impressive rides over the weekend. Where his pace seemed a class above his competition. Saturday marked his first ever sprint race victory and podium. If his pace here is a sign of things to come the championship could very easily become a three way battle.
Finally, Jorge Martin was able to capitalise on the errors of Bagnaia, and even though he lacked the pace for victory, he once again leads the MotoGP championship. The perfect retribution weekend for his error in Germany.
Going into the weekend I didn’t know what to expect due to it being my first time at the MotoGP, but it didn’t dissapoint. The bikes are very loud and action is constant across the weekend with multiple series going to the event. For me i’m definitely going back very soon, as it has opened my eyes to the world of motorbike racing
