Marc Marquez wins the MotoGP Sprint race in Argentina, defeating his brother Alex Marquez to the line once again, and three and a half seconds ahead of teammate Pecco Bagnaia.
It has been another super Saturday for the 8-time world champion as he delivers another pole and sprint win, further solidifying his return to the top of MotoGP with the Ducati team.
But it wasn’t without challenge as his brother Alex Marquez stayed on the tail of the championship leader for large parts of the Sprint. Once again, he was able to secure a second-place finish. And with the pace he showed today, he may be more of a challenge for his older brother tomorrow when the bigger points are on offer.
Pecco Bagnaia once again failed to match the lightning quick pace of both Marquez brothers throughout the day. Bagnaia narrowly made it through to Q2 on Friday after he took a tumble during his time attack laps in practice. Today, it ran slightly smoother for the 2-time MotoGP world champion, who managed to secure the podium in the Sprint from the second row of the grid.
The big surprise of the day came from the Castrol Honda LCR team’s Johann Zarco, who shocked the paddock by claiming a front-row in qualifying. Zarco was only three-tenths off the pace set by Marc Marquez in Q2. He also managed to turn this third place start into a fourth-place finish in Sprint. After he fended off the early charges of KTM’s Pedro Acosta and Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo.
Zarco’s fellow Honda rider Joan Mir was also able to claim a points finish after a great battle with Acosta for eighth place in the latter stages of the Sprint. Honda once again showed signs of improvement as they look to return to the top of MotoGP.
It was a quiet day for Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi, who failed to live up to the dark horse tag for the weekend. Bez managed only a sixth-place finish in the Sprint after a poor qualifying saw him placed ninth on the grid for this weekend’s racing action.
Marc Marquez will be looking to repeat todays result tomorrow, when the lights go out for the MotoGP race in Argentina. Lights out at 6pm UK time.
